Michael PhelanBennetts, the UK's No.1 Bike Insurance Specialist launched Bennetts Biking Dreams in May 2010 to celebrate their 80th Anniversary. Initially they had £80,000 to give away in prizes to fulfil bikers dreams and since launch the Bennetts Biking Dreams campaign has received thousands of entries from bikers. Now in its third year, 25 bikers have had their Biking Dream fulfilled. Entry is simple and free. Simply state your dream and provide some personal details and state why your dream should become a reality. Bennetts encourages all types of 'Dreams', from the complex to 'quick fixes'. Dreams can be quirky, funny and even inexpensive.

Michael Phelan's dream was to own a set of Alpinestars GORE-TEX riding kit and to tour around Scotland on his bike. Bennetts decided to fulfil that dream and unveiled it to him by handing over his prized kit on the second day of Christmas! On receiving his prize, Michael said: "I only entered on a whim, as you do, so to win this is a bit of a shock! I'm a huge social media fan so when I saw this campaign on Bennetts' Facebook page, I thought I'd give it a go. As the old saying goes, 'if you don't ask then you don't get.' I'm super excited ..."

McTours are delighted to deliver the second part of Michael's dream co-ordinating a bespoke tour around Scotland for him. Michael is particularly interested in spending time in Edinburgh, visiting Glasgow where he has relatives, Perth where he has friends and to see a Castle that his Grandmother was photographed beside some years ago. We identified the castle as Eilean Donan castle at Dornie/Ardelve in Ross-shire and we have incorporated that and his places of interest into a route. We collect Michael at Carlisle on 21st April and return him there at the end of the 29th after spending nine full days touring Scotland

This is an exclusive tour for Michael and is not open to the general public but if others like the route we have planned and want the same experience then please get in touch and we will do our utmost to make your dream a reality albeit as a cost!

Carlisle to Glasgow (188 miles)

St Marys LochWe shall begin with a somewhat winding route snaking east and west as we make our way north through Dumfries and Galloway and South Lanarkshire. We begin the day leaving Carlisle about 10am at first taking the M6/M74 to cross the border into Scotland. We exit the motorway at Gretna heading west towards Dumfries before joining the A76 and riding north to Thornhill where we stop for morning coffee. Thornhill is a charming village built by the Marquis of Queensbury in the early 1700’s. Drumlanrig Castle on the edge of the village remains the home of the Duke of Buccleugh and Queensberry.

We depart Thornhill heading north on the A702 to Elvanfoot then we cut south again on the B7076 to Moffat. Next we head east taking the A702 to St Marys Loch and then north again on B709 passing Traquair, a former hunting lodge of Scots Kings of 12 century origin and is the oldest continually inhabited house in Scotland. The A72 then now takes us to nearby Peebles where we break for lunch.
